Meet the Families :: The Allison Family
I want to introduce you to the Allison Family. They are adopting from Eastern Europe! You can follow their adoption journey on their blog!
I've asked some questions to help you get to know Jamie and Jared.
Tell me about yourself and your family. We have been married for 9 years. We met in high school and have been dating every since ... high school sweethearts :). We have 3 biological children, Thomas aged 6, Gwen aged 5 and Luci aged 19 months. Jamie is a stay at home mom and also homeschools the children. Jared work in information technology. We love to be together as a family, playing games and building things with the children.
What can you tell me about the child you are adopting?
The little guy we are hoping to adopt is 5. He has down syndrome. He has the biggest smile and loves to sing. His face is so so expressive and we can't wait until he is home with us! The children ask everyday if it is time to bring him home!
Tell me why you decided to adopt a child with special needs? Jamie was a special education teacher and worked with children with disabilities all through middle school and high school also. We found out how children with disabilities were treated in other countries and knew we had to do something. We found Eli's picture and just fell in love.
What would be your advice to anyone wanting to adopt?
Take the plunge! Leap off the cliff and don't look back. There will be scary days and waiting days. It's ok to be scared because it will all be worth it in the end.
