Friday Focus on Down Syndrome - Down Syndrome of Louisville

Groundbreaking Held For New Down Syndrome Center

 Down Syndrome of Louisville broke ground this weekend on a new life-long learning center.
Construction on the facility will begin soon on six acres along Hurstbourne Lane in the Stony Brook area.

Among those on hand was Gov. Steve Beshear.The $3.5 million center will be the first of its kind in the nation.

"This is project that puts a stamp on Louisville that people with Down Syndrome have value and contribute to the community," Down Syndrome of Louisville spokeswoman Diana Merzweiler said.

Kosair Charities provided the lead gift of $1.5 million.Down Syndrome of Louisville has been recognized as a national leader in the Down Syndrome community.
