UPDATED: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE AN AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD TO MAKE A NOMINATION! THIS MEANS THAT ANYONE CAN MAKE A SIMPLE LOGIN AND NOMINATE REECE'S RAINBOW FOR THESE CHANCES TO GET A $1.5MILLION GRANT!
REMEMBER... 100 KIDS WITH DS COMING HOME... THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS (AND MANY WITHOUT THAT ARE IN THE SAME ORPHANAGES) HAVING A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE WHILE THEY AWAIT THEIR FOREVER FAMILY...
Please don't just glance this over if you have an American Express card. Why am I asking what kind of credit card you use? Simple.. American Express has a "Member's Project" each year and this year Reece's Rainbow has been submitted for 2 projects. Anyone with an AmEx card can participate and vote to get them into the top 25.
I just came across the Member's Project today and had just a day to submit. In thinking globally, high impact, and of course PASSIONS... my mind immediately went to special needs and adoption. So, as you can see if you read the outline of the project below, I propose using the money to make the Ukrainian orphanages a safer haven from winter cold, summer heat, and repair other necessities at the orphanages. Some places are in very bad disrepair and most could use at least a little TLC. None are up to "American Standards." This project would impact not only children with Ds, but also children with ANY special need as well as many children without special needs that are in the same orphanages. The focus on those that house children with special needs is because they are the ones more likely to be affected by the weather (and the ones more on my own heart ;) ).
The second project is proposing $20,000 grants for 100 children with Down syndrome to be adopted from nations across the world. All these children are already listed with Reece's Rainbow and are currently waiting for homes.
Please share the following info on your BLOG, E-MAIL, and with any other groups or forums you are a part of, whether they're special needs related or not! This is a small thing people can do to help make a BIG impact. Please nominate the two projects below!
WE NEED OVER 2500 NOMINATIONS AT THE MOMENT TO BE PART OF THE TOP 25 AND THIS NUMBER IS INCREASING DAILY! PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND HEY, WHY NOT STRANGERS??
(to get the widget below, click "share with others" then at the top it says "e-mail" and "embed" Choose one and go from there!)
Don't you think they deserve it??? (what if Emma and Micah hadn't come home?)
PLEASE NOMINATE THESE PROJECTS!!

Basic essentials such as windows that seal tight, doors with weather stripping, and interior modifications that raise the quality of life for some of the 150,000 orphans with special needs will greatly increase their health and ability to thrive in their environment.Disease such as RSV will kill less infants and toddlers.Cost of heating and cooling will go down which releases funding for essentials such as fresh fruits and vegetables.
The Problem I Am Addressing
Orphans are living in buildings that would not be considered safe in the US. Most are getting by with what they have, but providing weather resistance for the buildings and other essentials would greatly improve lives and would literally save many lives. Providing this with a preference toward those orphanages serving children with special needs makes a statement to a society that does not incorporate any disabilities and may open the doors for social change within Ukraine.
The Impact My Project Will Have
Thousands of orphaned children will have healthier lives as a result of this project.Families adopting these children will be impacted because their children's quality of life will have been improved significantly and their ability to thrive in their environment will be raised as well.Raising awareness of the potential of special needs kids will increase the desire for social change within the country itself and future acceptance of these kids being raised from infancy by their birth families.
We have a child with special needs by birth and two more who we adopted from Ukraine from an orphanage that could use these repairs.Stories of other adoptive families are continuously coming in and the needs list grows one orphanage at a time with what they need repaired or replaced.Children with special needs deserve a warm and loving environment to thrive in and their birth family would be first choice, an adoptive family second, but a warm orphanage is a start to help them survive.
There is a second project submitted for Reece's Rainbow by Andrea Roberts. Please click to find out more information about it as well!
